Of Heavy Rains and Ice Cream

This is my 1st Something New for this year.

I spent the past 4 days with KZBT, her family and CGT at Bicol. And as usual, I brought home with me a copy of Cebu Pacific’s Inflight Magazine SMILE. I was looking through its pages, when one of the pages about Bicol caught my attention. And one of the things that really tickled my fancy was the picture of SILI ICE CREAM.

Bicol is known for their love for SILI (chili) and a sili as a flavor of ice cream, is really quite interesting. We searched online as to where in Albay, can we taste this ice cream.

The place is called 1ST COLONIAL GRILL, a grill situated in Metro Gaisano Mall in Albay. Aside from Sili Icecream, they also have other crazy ice cream flavors like calamansi, pili nut, tinutong (toasted rice), Baileys and malunggay (a leafy vegetable). We tried all these crazy flavors.

Not Your Usual Ice Cream Flavors

Sili Ice Cream – is your usual sweet and creamy but have an after melt effect and burning sensation that you get when eating spicy food.

Malunggay Ice Cream – is your typical malunggay taste. Bitter but creamy form. This was our least favorite because of it’s strong taste. Ugh!

Tinutong na Ice Cream – is a surprise waiting to be tasted. It is almost as what dark chocolate taste.

Kalamansi Ice Cream – is a combination of sour and creamy. Hmmm it’s like having a kalamansi juice in cream form. hahaha.

Baileys – is almost like Baileys shake.

Pili – is just like your vanilla ice cream with Pili nuts.

Their ice cream dish consists of 3 scoops, which you can request to have the flavors combined in a serving. Each serving costs only 79 pesos.
